If your company culture is dying… As a leader, it’s Your fault (And here’s what you can do about it)

When we started QuickBox, I knew every employee by name.

I’d walk the warehouse floor, greeting each person, asking about their families.

Then we grew to 500+ people across three locations.

Suddenly, I was surrounded by unfamiliar faces.

The intimacy vanished.

This is when culture becomes endangered.

Not just during rapid scaling, but through the natural passage of time.

New hires bring different values. Founding stories fade.

The “way we’ve always done things” gets questioned.

I call this the “Culture Conundrum”

where time and growth gradually dilute what made your company special.

The solution isn’t accidental. It’s intentional.

Culture by design, not by default, must become your mantra.

This means:

→ Defining core values that live in hearts, not just on posters

→ Hiring (and firing) with these values as non-negotiables

→ Leading by example – consistently and visibly

→ Overcommunicating through stories that celebrate values in action

→ Protecting culture fiercely during economic downturns

Remember, your company becomes the stories you tell about it, repeated until they become tradition.
